Jim and Beverly Young Scholarship in Engineering

Scholarship grants to students enrolled in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Wyoming. Preference will be given to students who are Wyoming residents and have self-identified as Native American, with first preference for students from the Wind River Indian Reservation. In the event there are no applicants from the Wind River Indian Reservation or who are Native American, A Wyoming resident enrolled in the College of Engineering and Applied Science may be selected.

Applicants must demonstrate recent community service utilizing engineering skills through submission of a Record of Community service, documenting 20 hours by the volunteer organization. In the event an applicant is employed in part-time or full-time work to financially support themselves through school, the community service requirement can be waived, through submission of Proof of Employment from current employer documenting dates of employment, job title, and salary.

Preference will be given to a student who has engaged in community service related to construction (all trades) that requires engineering skills learned by the student.

Scholarship recipients may qualify for renewal, but are required to reapply with submission of a new application each year. It is the Donors’ preference that the scholarship be renewed if the recipient receives each semester a 2.5 or better grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), or equivalent. There are no restrictions on the number of semesters that a recipient may receive the scholarship as long as the recipient is making satisfactory progress toward a degree.
