Dick and Lynne Cheney Graduate Fellowship for Excellence in Study Abroad

The Dick and Lynne Cheney Fellowships for Excellence in Study Abroad are awarded to outstanding students with strong records of academic excellence and the potential for enhanced professional development while abroad. Candidates are considered based on their objectives in going abroad and the extent to which the candidate has demonstrated the commitment and potential to make a significant contribution to his or her field via international study or research.
Eligibility and Criteria:
- Cumulative GPA at time of application: 3.50
- All applicants must be degree-seeking students during the time of their study abroad.
- Applicants must have at least 9 hours of directed coursework completed or in progress and be enrolled as a UW student at the time of application.
- UW students in any college who will participate in study abroad, international research, international internship, or another UW-sanctioned activity abroad may apply.
- Record and potential for academic excellence and enhanced professional development; documentation of potential for significant contributions to field via international study and/or research;
- Students must outline their research project design and justify why their project should be undertaken at their particular host institution or location, and how the experience will uniquely prepare or allow them to push the frontiers of knowledge in their field.
Applications for this scholarship are also encouraged to apply for the Dick and Lynne Cheney Study Abroad Grant and the UniWyo Federal Credit Union Study Abroad Scholarship. However, applicants may only accept one scholarship from the Education Abroad Office (EAO) for the same program abroad.
Individual students are ineligible to receive more than two scholarships from EAO during the same career (undergraduate or graduate) at UW.
