Chief Washakie Memorial Endowment

The Chief Washakie Memorial Endowment at the University of Wyoming has been established to help students and educators with significant ties to the Wind River Reservation community gain formal knowledge, skills and abilities. The spirit of the award assumes that the recipients have, as part of their ultimate goals, some direct participation, appropriate to their educational background, in activities that will further the common good of the people of the Reservation.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be admitted to the University of Wyoming.
  • You must apply for federal financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after October 1 as possible. If FAFSA data is not received by UW by the application deadline, your application may not be considered by the Committee.
  • You must submit this completed scholarship application by the published deadline.
  • Applications will be accepted from full-time and part-time students and from all class levels (including graduate/professional students and second bachelor’s degree candidates). Previous recipients may apply.

Selection Criteria:

  • Scholastic ability, potential, and achievement
  • Involvement in school, community, and tribal activities
  • Potential to contribute to the Wind River Reservation community upon graduation
  • Financial circumstances

Amount of Awards:
The Chief Washakie Memorial Endowment Committee will competitively award several scholarships, of one academic year’s duration, in varying amounts, dependent upon the availability of funds and applicant qualifications. Yearly awards will be divided in half with one half of the award paid at the beginning of each semester.

Award Conditions:

  • You must be enrolled in UW course work.
  • To receive a payment for the second semester, you must have earned a cumulative UW grade point average (GPA) that allows you to maintain good academic standing (2.0 GPA for undergraduate, pharmacy, and law students; 3.0 for graduate students).
  • If you apply for financial aid at UW based on your financial need and receive this scholarship, the UW financial aid package offered to you may have to be adjusted to reflect the addition of this scholarship. Other types of aid you were offered may be reduced, but the total amount of your financial aid offer will not be reduced.
