WESTON JOHNSON "NEVER FLINCH" MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Weston Lane Johnson was born January 15, 1987 in Lakin, KS and lost a valiant battle with cancer on January 17, 2014 in Wray, CO, at the age of 27. Weston was a 2005 Graduate of Wray High School. He participated in football, basketball, baseball and track. Not only did he excel on the field but also in the classroom. He received many awards and honors during high school including: Honor roll all 4 years, Member of NHS, FCCLA, FCA, Spanish Club and Academic All State 1st team from 2002-2005. Weston received numerous All Conference and All-State honors in football, baseball, basketball and track during his time at Wray High School. He was chosen to play in the Colorado High School Coaches Association All State Football game in June 2005. Weston was named to the National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter and College Football Hall of Fame Scholar- Athlete in Feb. 2005 and was awarded a scholarship which was given to Wray High School.
During his senior year, Weston signed a “Letter of Intent” to play Division I football for the University of Wyoming (UW). This was a dream come true for Weston where he continued to excel both on the field and in the classroom. Weston played for the University of Wyoming from 2005-2009, lettered from 2006 through 2009 and was team captain during his senior season of 2009. He received the Mountain West Conference Scholar Athlete award given by the National Football Foundation-Wyoming Chapter and the Football Hall of Fame in 2009. He was recognized by the UW College of Business as its top Senior Marketing Student and was an Academic All-Mountain West selection four consecutive years. He graduated from UW with a BS in Marketing and a minor in Finance in December of 2009. Weston was drafted as a Free Agent with the Atlanta Falcons in 2010 after which he returned to UW as a defensive graduate assistant coach in 2011. This is dedicated to the University of Wyoming in his memory.
