Buddy Hirsig Memorial Scholarship for UW Rodeo

No name is more synonymous with rodeo than Hirsig. From the time that Cheyenne Frontier Days began, there hasn’t been a rodeo without a Hirsig in the arena. A cowboy by birth, Charles “Buddy” Hirsig grew up on the Iron Mouintain Ranch, graduated from Cheyenne High School, and attended the University of Wyoming. It was only fitting that he was a members of the UW Rodeo Team.

Buddy held the post as arena director for Cheyenne Frontier Days for 36 years, beginning in 1958 after succeeding his father. In Buddy’s own words, he emphasizes the importance of rodeo to the Hirsig family during his Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame inducation: “The Hirsig family legacy is not one to gain fame nor fortune but a love for the sport of rodeo. It is a family that recognizes the treasures and traditions of the old days and its memories and diligently helps to keep it all alive.”
