Sheila Langlois Memorial Fellowship for Study Abroad in Art History and the Humanities

Provides one or two fellowships per year of up to $10,000 to support study abroad for students in disciplines within the humanities, including, but not exclusive to, art history, history, literature, philosophy, religious studies, modern/classical languages, international studies or interdisciplinary fields.

Eligibility and Criteria:

  • Cumulative GPA at time of application: 3.25
  • All applicants must be degree-seeking students during the time of their study abroad.
  • Undergraduate applicants must have at least 30 hours of coursework completed or in progress and be enrolled as a UW student at the time of application. Graduate applicants must have at least 9 hours of directed coursework completed or in progress and be enrolled as a UW student at the time of application.
  • UW students in majoring in Art History or humanities discipline (including art, art history, culture, history, literature, philosophy, religious studies, modern/classical languages, international studies or interdisciplinary fields).
  • Record and potential for academic excellence and enhanced professional development; documentation of potential for significant contributions to field via international study and/or research;
  • Graduate students must outline their research project design and justify why their project should be undertaken at their particular host institution, and how the experience will uniquely prepare or allow them to push the frontiers of knowledge in their field.
  • Undergraduate students must outline why research and/or language study they will undertake is particularly well suited to their host institutions, and how the experience will uniquely prepare them for profession and/or academic careers.

Applications for this scholarship are also encouraged to apply for all available study abroad scholarships. However, applicants may only accept one scholarship from the Education Abroad Office for the same program abroad.

Individual students are ineligible to receive more than two scholarships from the Education Abroad Office during the same career (undergraduate or graduate) at UW.
